Joseph Longo is in the final stages of his PhD at the University of Toronto and Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. His current research is focused on repurposing already-approved drugs to target tumour-specific vulnerabilities. Prior to this, he completed his Honours BSc degree at McMaster University in the Molecular Biology and Genetics program.

Joe’s expertise spans multiple therapeutic areas, including oncology, inflammation and small molecule therapeutics.  He is passionate about applying his scientific communication and research skills to improve patient care and outcomes.

Amila Omeragic, PhD(c)

Medical Science Liaison

Amila Omeragic is a senior PhD(c) from Dept. of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Toronto. Her work focuses on investigating novel anti-inflammatory targets for the treatment of HIV-1 associated neurocognitive disorders. She is currently the Chair of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences UofT student chapter, a program leader for the UoT Life Sciences Career Development Society and member of the Pharmaceutical Sciences Graduate Student Association.

Amila is passionate about healthcare and applying the latest scientific discoveries to the clinic. Her strong scientific background combined with her ability to effectively communicate make her an integral part of our MSL team.

Sandra Sacco, MSc, PhD

Medical Science Liaison

Dr. Sandra Sacco is a Sessional Instructor at Brock University with over 13 years of research experience in endocrinology, musculoskeletal health, women’s health, and oncology.

Sandra received her PhD at the University of Toronto investigating the impact of food-drug interactions on bone and reproductive health.  She completed industrial post-doctoral training at Nestlé in Lausanne, Switzerland, developing food products that enhance physical performance and mobility.  She returned to Canada as a Research Associate at Brock University to study the response of radiation exposure from micro-CT scanning and the effect of maternal nutrition on the musculoskeletal health of offspring.

Sandra is an integral part of our team, is an expert educator and scientist and is passionate about applying her skills to improve the lives of patients and their caregivers.

Hamza Taufique PhD(c)

Medical Science Liaison

Hamza is a PhD(c) at the University of Toronto with over 7 years of research experience in molecular biology, neuroscience, and metabolism. He has technical expertise and interest in RNA biology, including RNA-based diseases and therapeutics.

Hamza has worked in science outreach and communication at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute for over four years and founded a speaker series for graduate students to promote interdisciplinary collaboration. Hamza is passionate about student mental health and has worked closely with university administration and student organizations to find solutions for student mental health challenges.

Hamza is enthusiastic about improving health literacy and finding solutions that improve healthcare access and outcomes.

Wendy Xiong, RPh, BSc Pharm, PharmD

Medical Science Liaison

Wendy Xiong is a Registered Pharmacist with experience in Medical Information and Pharmacovigilance roles within the Canadian pharmaceutical industry.  She has worked as a pharmacist in both community and hospital settings and has clinical and professional experience in oncology, respiratory, opthamology, gastroenterology, and metabolic therapeutic areas. 

She is a graduate of the University of Toronto having earned her BSc in Pharmacology, BSc in Pharmacy and Pharm D.

Wendy’s professional and clinical expertise combine to make her a highly valued customer-facing medical representative.  She is passionate about patient safety, optimizing clinical outcomes and making meaningful improvements in the Canadian health care system.
